UPSC Civil Services Examination

 

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services Examination every year to select the ‘Candidates to serve in IAS (Indian administrative Services), IFS (Indian Foreign Services), 1 (Indian Police ‘Services, RS Indian Revenue Services) and other All India and Central Services.

 

Civil Services Examination is Conducted in 3 Stages

 

1) Preliminary ExaminationThis stage is screening test. The purpose of Preliminary Examination is to screen out unqualified candidates and to screen in qualified candidates for Main Examination. Mark obtained in Preliminary Examination are not considered for final ranking

 

SCHEME OF PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

 

This is Multiple Choice Question (MQ) type examination with negative marking for wrong answers.

(The paper of CSAT is qualifying in nature. Candidate has to secure minimum 30% marks in this paper. The merit list of preliminary examination is based on marks obtained in Paper 1)

 

MAIN EXAMINATION

 

This stages is selection stage. The purpose of Main Examination is to select suitable candidates for Personality test {Interview). The Main Examinations is totally descriptive in nature.

(The candidate has to choose one optional subject from the list given by Commission).

Final ranking is based on marks obtained in written Main Examination (1750) and Interview (275) together.
